Genus: Rhinoclemmys

Rhinoclemmys is a genus of semiaquatic and terrestrial turtles native to Central and South America, commonly known as Neotropical wood turtles. They belong to the family Geoemydidae and are the only New World representatives of this group. Species within this genus vary in habitat preference, ranging from forested wetlands to grasslands, and are known for their distinctive shell patterns and mild temperaments. Rhinoclemmys turtles are primarily herbivorous but may consume small invertebrates, and they play an important role in their ecosystems by aiding in seed dispersal.
