Genus: Pelochelys

Pelochelys is a genus of large softshell turtles known for their broad, flat bodies and long snorkel-like noses. These turtles are freshwater dwellers found in parts of Southeast Asia and New Guinea. They prefer slow-moving rivers and are mostly carnivorous, feeding on fish, crustaceans, and other aquatic animals. Members of this genus, like the critically endangered Yangtze giant softshell turtle, are among the largest freshwater turtles in the world.
