Genus: Eretmochelys

Eretmochelys is a genus of sea turtles, most notably represented by the critically endangered hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata). Known for their sharp, curved beaks and distinctive patterned shells, these turtles are primarily found in tropical coral reefs around the world. They play an important ecological role by maintaining the health of coral reefs, feeding on sponges and other invertebrates. Unfortunately, their beautiful shells have made them a target for illegal trade, contributing to their population decline. Hawksbill turtles are also highly migratory, traveling long distances between feeding and nesting grounds.
