Genus: Chitra

Chitra is a genus of large softshell turtles found in freshwater rivers of South Asia and Southeast Asia. These turtles are known for their broad, flat bodies with soft, leathery shells and long, pointed snouts. They are typically found in sandy-bottomed rivers with slow currents. Members of this genus are carnivorous, feeding mainly on fish, crustaceans, and other aquatic animals. Chitra turtles are well-adapted to burrowing in the sand, where they ambush prey. Interestingly, they are considered one of the largest softshell turtles, with some species growing up to 1.5 meters in length.
