Loggerhead Sea Turtle Growth Rate

Adult loggerhead sea turtles are typically 2.5 to 3.5 feet (80 to 110 cm) long. They weigh about 113 kgs, or 250 pounds. But over time, loggerhead turtles weighing up to 1000 pounds have been discovered.

Baby loggerhead turtles typically measure no more than 2.3 inches (6 cm) in size. They undergo rapid development during their early stages, and their growth rate gradually slows down as they reach sexual maturity, typically between the ages of 25 to 35.

A 2009 study conducted by Italian researchers focused on loggerhead turtles in the Mediterranean Sea, specifically in Italian waters. According to their findings, loggerhead hatchlings experience a growth rate of 11.8 cm per year for the first 6 months.

This rate subsequently decreases to 3.6 cm per year for the next 2.5 to 3.5 years. Do you want to know more about turtles and their growth? Check out this link How Fast Do Different Sea Turtles Grow?
